Ciesielczyk guides Women's Soccer to wild win over Lake Forest

MEQUON, Wis. – After Lake Forest College tied the score, 3-3, with 8:53 left Saturday afternoon it appeared that the Concordia University Wisconsin women's soccer team would be headed for overtime.

Falcon sophomore Emily Ciesielczyk (Waukesha, Wis.) had other ideas, however, as she scored just 13 seconds later to give CUW its first win of the season, 4-3, over the previous unbeaten Foresters. It was her second goal of the match.

She scored just 13 seconds after the Foresters Michele Giurovici tied the score at 3-3 at the 81:07 mark on an unassisted goal.

Ciesielczyk also got the scoring started in the match as she tallied an unassisted mark just 7:26 into play to give CUW its first lead of the season. The Falcons would extend their lead to 2-0 at the 25:35 mark when sophomore Carley Pfannerstill (Grafton, Wis.) scored her second goal of the season off a Ciesielczyk pass.

Lake Forest (2-1-0) cut the lead to one before halftime as Michelle Greeneway scored off an assist from Nina Perkkio, making the score 2-1 after 45 minutes of play.

Lake Forest would tie the score just over 10 minutes into the second half when Greeneway scored her second goal of the contest at the 56:37 mark. Sam Hillis had the assist as Greeneway finished it with the header.

The score would remain tied until the 75:16 mark when junior captain Anna Hirssig (Rochester, Minn.) launched a free kick from about 15 yards out just over the reach of the Forester keeper. That lead would hold until Giurovici tied it before Ciesielczyk would ultimately win it.

The Falcons were narrowly outshot by LFC, 15-14 but both teams finished with six shots on goal. CUW goalkeeper Ariana Worthing (Saginaw, Mich.) made three saves to gain her first career collegiate victory, while her counterpart, Rachel Tenuta, made two saves for the Foresters. Pfannerstill led all players with six shots.

CUW (1-2-0) will return to action tomorrow when they visit Carthage College in a non-conference match. The match is set to begin at 2 p.m. and live stats will be available from CUWFalcons.com.
