Hirssig's late goal leads Women's Soccer to win over North Park

MEQUON, Wis. – Junior captain Anna Hirssig scored with 10:05 left in the match to lead the Concordia University Wisconsin women's soccer team to a 2-1 victory over North Park University Wednesday afternoon at Fitting Field.

Hirssig (Rochester, Minn.) sent in a header off a free kick from sophomore Gabrielle Ulik (West Allis, Wis.) to break the 1-1 tie. It was the first goal scored in the second half, as both teams found the back of the net in the opening 45 minutes.

Sophomore Brittany Klumpp (Rubicon, Wis.) started the scoring as she scored off a free kick from freshman Abigail Freeland (Grafton, Wis.). The goal was the 20th of Klumpp's career and first of the season for the reigning NACC Freshman of the Year.

It wouldn't take long for North Park to answer as Emma Lundeen scored just under seven minutes later off a pass from Anika Johnson. Johnson sent a cross to the middle and Lundeen was there to put in the equalizer, making the score 1-1.

Each team finished with 16 shots but the Falcons held an 8-5 edge in shots on goal. Klumpp led all players with six shots, while sophomores Emily Ciesielczyk (Waukesha, Wis.) and Carley Pfannerstill (Grafton, Wis.) each recorded three shots. Katrina Dekirmendjan finished with five shots to lead the Vikings (2-3-0).

Freshman Ariana Worthing (Saginaw, Mich.) tallied four saves to pick up her second career victory, while her counterpart, Paola Andrade, made six saves in the loss. There were also plenty of fouls in Tuesday's match as the team's combined for 22, including three yellow cards.

CUW (2-3-0) will return to action Saturday when they visit St. Norbert College in a non-conference match. Play between the Falcons and Green Knights is set for 1 p.m. in De Pere, Wis.
