Women's Soccer falls to UW-Oshkosh in non-conference match

OSHKOSH, Wis. – Playing a non-conference match for the final time this season, the Concordia University Wisconsin Women's Soccer team fell against UW-Oshkosh, 3-1, Monday night at J.J. Keller Field at Titan Stadium. The win marked the sixth straight victory for the host Titans.

Sophomore Brittany Klumpp (Rubicon, Wis.) scored her fifth goal of the season, but it was not enough for the Falcons. Her goal scored at the 26:56 mark tied the score at 1-1, but UWO recorded the match-winner 8:21 later off a goal from Anna Beckerleg. Freshman Abigail Freeland (Grafton, Wis.) assisted on the Klumpp goal.

UW-Oshkosh started the scoring just 7:24 into the match as Megan White tallied a goal off assists from Amanda Baalke and Robyn Elliot. The Klumpp and Beckerleg goals made the score 2-1 at the half and the Titans added a third goal late in the second half, an unassisted mark from Elliot, allowing them to gain the 3-1 victory.

Each team used two different goalkeepers with the Falcons starting freshman Ariana Worthing (Saginaw, Mich.), while freshman Alyssa Schmitt (Cedar Grove, Wis.) played the entire second half in relief. Worthing took the loss, recording a career-high six saves, while Schmitt stopped two shots. Katie Berkopec recorded two first-half saves to earn her eighth win of the season. Berkopec was relieved at halftime by Nina Muzi who came on and tallied three saves, while not allowing a goal.

CUW was outshot 22-10 as only two Falcons players recorded two or more shots. Sophomore Gabrielle Ulik (West Allis, Wis.) led the team with three shots and Klumpp added two. Baalke, White and Christina Mauthe all fired four shots to pace the Titans.

The loss concluded a challenging non-conference slate for the Falcons that saw them play two schools that advanced to the NCAA Tournament in 2012. That non-conference schedule has helped the Falcons in NACC play, where they sit at 5-1-0 with five league matches remaining.

CUW (7-6-0) will have Tuesday off before returning to conference play Wednesday as they are scheduled to host Marian University. The Falcons and Sabres are slated for a 3:30 p.m. start at Fitting Field. Live audio and stats will be available courtesy of CUWFalcons.com.
