UW-Stout blanks Women's Soccer in season opener

MENOMONIE, Wis. – Offense was hard to come by Friday evening for the Concordia University Wisconsin women's soccer team as it was blanked by UW-Stout, 3-0, in the season opener for both squads.

The host Blue Davis came out strong scoring twice in the first 13:13 of the match played at Nelson Field. The first UW-Stout goal came at the 11:02 mark of the opening half when Alix Hyduke scored unassisted. Hyduke would score the game's final goal as well, giving her two in the match.

It didn't take long for the Blue Devils (1-0-0) to strike again as they found the back of the net 2:11 later when Kelly Conn beat the keeper off a pass from Addy Maher giving UW-Stout a 2-0 advantage.

UW-Stout controlled the shots in the opening half, outshooting CUW 14-3. Starting goalkeeper Ariana Worthing (Saginaw, Mich., freshman) made five saves in the opening half for the Falcons.

The second half wouldn't see much offense as Hyduke's goal was the lone tally of the final 45 minutes, giving the Blue Devils a 3-0 victory. UW-Stout finished with 19 shots, while the Falcons totaled eight shots, led by sophomore Carley Pfannerstill (Grafton, Wis.) who took four.

Freshman Alyssa Schmitt (Cedar Grove, Wis.) played the final 45 minutes in net for CUW and recorded four saves. Robbie Shelby played the whole match in net for UW-Stout, recording the shutout and finishing with three saves.

CUW (0-1-0) will be back in action Wednesday afternoon when they host UW-Whitewater in its home opener at Fitting Field. Play will begin at 4:00 p.m. and live stats and audio will be available from CUWFalcons.com.
