Falcon women edge Dominican 3-2 in double overtime

River Forest, Ill. -- Kelly Sippel's goal with just a minute remaining in the second overtime gave Concordia University Wisconsin a thrilling 3-2 road win over Dominican University Saturday afternoon.

After a scoreless first half that CUW dominated in terms of possession, it was the host Stars who got on the board initially. Ashley Meyer scored her 14th goal of the season to make it 1-0 just 30 seconds after the break.

Not to be outdone, CUW junior star Lauren Straehler (Pewaukee, Wis.) scored her 14th and 15th goals of the season over the next 10 minutes before the ever-present Meyer countered in the final 10 minutes of regulation to create a 2-2 tie heading into overtime.

With all eyes on who might come out ahead in the Meyer vs. Straehler scoring dual, it was Sippel (senior, Fond du Lac, Wis.) who notched the winner for head coach Ryan Middendorf's team just seconds before the match would have been declared a draw.

The Falcons are now 9-3-0 in league play and passed DU (7-3-1) in the process. Stats were amazingly even but Middendorf's team will earn the higher seed (probably 4th) in the NAC tourney.
