Women’s Soccer looks for sixth-straight NAC victory Wednesday

MEQUON, Wis. - Winning five consecutive Northern Athletics Conference matches isn't enough for the Concordia University Wisconsin women's soccer team as they look to add another win against league-foe MSOE on Wednesday at 4 p.m. at Fitting Field.

The Falcons' (5-3-0, 5-0-0 NAC) offense has been in overdrive this season, scoring a NAC-best 32 goals in conference play. They have posted three shutouts in conference action and have held two more league opponents to a single tally.

Junior Lauren Straehler (Pewaukee, Wis.) leads a barrage of 14 CUW players who have found the scoring column. She also leads the team with five assists, while senior Kelli Wittenberg (Sturtevant, Wis.) has assisted on four goals of her own.

CUW leads all NAC teams - conference play only - in goals (32), assists (23), goals against average (0.47 per match), and shots per match (35.0). The Falcons defense has been just as impressive as the offense and has recorded just seven saves, tied for fewest in the league.

MSOE (4-4-0, 2-1-0 NAC) and CUW have had some exciting battles over the past four years. The two squads are 2-2-1 in the last five meetings, with the Falcons winning the last matchup - a 1-0 NAC Tournament win in Milwaukee.

The Raiders' Jessica Axt leads the NAC and is ranked second nationally (DIII) in goals scored with 14, as of Sept. 25. Jamie Janczak leads the league in assists (14) and is ranked third nationally (DIII), as of Sept. 25.

CUW continues their four-match homestand on Saturday at 3:30 p.m. against Aurora University. The match is the second part of a doubleheader following the Falcon men's matchup. Saturday is also Concordia Family Day.
