Women’s Soccer downed by high scoring Aurora on Family Weekend

MEQUON, Wis. - The Northern Athletics Conference defending champion Aurora University showed why it has the best offense in the conference, as they outshot Concordia University Wisconsin 29-3 on Saturday afternoon en route to a 3-1 women's soccer victory at Fitting Field.

The Spartans (9-3-0, 6-0-0 NAC) showed exceptional speed on the offensive side of the field and recorded the most shots the Falcons (5-5-0, 5-2-0 NAC) defense has allowed in a match this season. The four-time NAC champions also finished with a 9-0 advantage in corner kicks.

CUW's goalkeeper Samantha Anacker (Janesville, Wis.) made several impressive plays throughout the match and finished with 12 saves, a season-high, in front of a large gathering of Falcon parents.

After playing to a 0-0 tie through 45 minutes of play, the Spartans offense found the back of the net less than eight minutes into the second period when Raquel Rodriquez connected with Nicole Wolfe for the first score of the match.

Britney Schenck found Christine Kwilosz at the 77:04 mark of the second half to give AU a 2-0 cushion.

Less than four minutes later senior Renee Hecker (Harrison Township, Mich.) connected with junior Lauren Straehler (Pewaukee, Wis.) to cut the Falcons deficit to 2-1 with just under 10 minutes to play.

Rodriquez recorded her second assist of the contest after Mariah Ziegenbein took her pass and found the twine at the 84:46 mark of the match.

CUW concludes its four-match homestand on Tuesday, Oct. 4, for a 4 p.m. NAC matchup with Edgewood College at Fitting Field.
