Falcon women hold off Benedictine soccer 3-2

Box Score: CUW 3, BenU 2

Lisle, Ill. -- It looked so easy for the Concordia University Wisconsin Falcons in the early going.

Senior Kelly Sippel (Fond du Lac, Wis.) scored just four minutes into the match and teammate Lauren Straehler (junior, Pewaukee, Wis.) added goals in the 23rd and 33rd minutes as the Falcons controlled play and took an impressive 3-0 lead into halftime.

The second 45 minutes of the match was a different story, however, as the host Eagles reversed roles with their Falcon counterparts.

CUW's 9-1 first half shot differential became an 8-1 deficit after the break as the Eagles took over possession and opportunities.

Forward Nikki Jhanji finally broke the ice for BenU in the 69th minute and then she cut the margin to 3-2 with her second tally in the 87th minute.

From that point on, head coach Ryan Middendorf's Falcons managed to hold on for the final 100 ticks, improving to 7-2-0 in the Northern Athletics Conference with the exciting road win.

The Falcons next travel to St. Norbert College for a 7 p.m. Tuesday non-conference encounter.
