Women’s Soccer drops NAC contest at Marian
FOND DU LAC, Wis. - Samantha Anacker recorded a career-high 17 saves, but it was Marian University's aggressive style that propelled the hosts to a 2-0 Northern Athletics Conference women's soccer victory over Concordia University Wisconsin on Tuesday night at Smith Fields.
The Sabres (10-6, 8-2 NAC) forced the issue early and often as the Falcons (9-6, 8-3 NAC) couldn't find a way to answer. MU outshot CUW 28-6 in the contest and finished with a 5-1 advantage in corner kicks.
Laura Maly tagged the back of the net less than four minutes into the match after the ball was fumbled from Anacker and tapped in to give the Sabres a 1-0 lead.
Maly scored her second goal of the match and eighth of the season when teammate Mollie Tennessen connected with her in the 22nd minute of the opening period.
Anacker (junior, Janesville, Wis.) made two saves in the opening period and had an impressive 15 saves during the final 45 minutes of play. Her previous career high in saves was 12 which she had on Oct. 1, against Aurora University.
CUW returns to the pitch on Saturday for a crucial 3:30 p.m. NAC match at Dominican University in River Forest, Ill. The match is the final conference contest of the season for the Falcons and will help determine their seed in the NAC Tournament.
