Women’s Hockey opens the year at Trine

ANGOLA, Ind. – The CUW women's hockey team opened the 2020-21 season on Saturday night at Trine. The Falcons were able to force overtime but fell short, 2-1. The Falcons open the year at 0-1-0 as Trine improves to 1-3-0 on the year, after already playing three games against Adrian.

Defense reigned supreme in the first period with neither team able to find the back of the net. Concordia posted 10 shots in the first 20 minutes, while Trine landed eight.

The Thunder rumbled onto the scoreboard with 2:50 remaining in the second period.                                     

Senior Ally Hull (Wasilla, Alaska) leveled the game 28 seconds into the third period with a shot in front of the net from passes from junior Emily Reimche (Billings, Mont.) and senior Madi Chapman (Rogers, Minn.).

The CUW defense was able to keep the game tied at one to force overtime.

Trine was able to find the back of the net 89 seconds into the overtime session.

Sophomore Annalina Van Hercke (Castle Rock, Colo.) posted 26 saves in the season opener.

The Falcons held a 30-28 shots advantage on Saturday evening. Junior Kaytlin Johnson (Black River Falls, Wis.) led the flock with five shots.

CUW won 23 of the 40 faceoffs on Saturday, with junior Baileigh Johnson (Neillsville, Wis.) winning 11.

The Falcons will now wait for the NCHA to release the 2020-21 schedule.
