Women’s Hockey opens NCHA play with a win at Marian

FOND DU LAC, Wis. – The CUW women's hockey team opened NCHA play with a 2-1 victory over Marian on Friday night.

Senior Avrielle Schneider (Gilbert, Minn.) opened the scoring in the first period off assists from junior Sarah Pearson (South Range, Wis.) and sophomore Isabela Noyle (Baltimore, Md.). The goal was the first of her collegiate career.

The Sabres struck on the power play in the second period to level the game.

Senior Maddie Savage (Grand Rapids, Mich.) gave the Falcons the lead with her first collegiate goal off a pass from junior Baileigh Johnson (Neillsville, Wis.) in the second period.

Sophomore Annalina Van Hercke (Castle Rock, Colo.) and the defense shut the door on the Sabres the rest of the way to secure the victory.

Van Hercke collected 20 saves in the victory.

The Falcons held a 38-21 shots advantage on Friday.

CUW will go for the weekend sweep on Saturday night at home.
