Women’s Hockey wins first-ever home playoff game

MEQUON, Wis. – It was all smiles for the CUW women's hockey team on a historic Tuesday night inside of the Ozaukee Ice Center. The Falcons host the Marian Sabres in the first ever home NCHA Slaats Cup competition for the Falcons. CUW secured a 5-1 victory to protect home ice and improve to 10-7-0.

Junior Megan McPike (Mequon, Wis.) was the first person to light the lamp on Tuesday with a goal six minutes into the game off assists from junior Emily Reimche (Billings, Mont.) and freshman Amanda Carney (Aurora, Ont.).

The Sabres scored their loan goal of the evening on the power play.

Junior Sarah Pearson (South Range, Wis. scored what proved to be the game-winning goal on the power play off a deflection of the shot of sophomore Colleen Gilligan (Colborne, Ont.).

Junior Kaytlin Johnson (Black River Falls, Wis.) wasted no time to strike on the power play in the second period. She scored six seconds into the power play off a faceoff victory from Emily Reimche.

Senior Maddie Savage (Grand Rapids, Mich.) scored in the final minute of the second period off a deflection of a junior Sarah Tretina (Plainfield, Ill.) shot.

Senior Ally Hull (Wasilla, Alaska) continued her scoring streak with a goal 19 seconds into the third period with assists to Kaytlin Johnson and Emily Reimche.

Sophomore Annalina Van Hercke (Castle Rock, Colo.) stopped 21 Sabre shots on the night.

The Falcon have now won five-straight games, tying the program record established in 2011.

CUW had 34 shots on Tuesday night and was led by Sarah Tretina with six.

Junior Baileigh Johnson (Neillsville, Wis.) won 16 of her 17 faceoffs against the Sabres.

The Falcons completed the season sweep of Marian with a 6-0-0 record.

The Blue and White will compete in the NCHA Slaats Cup Semifinals on Friday evening at either St. Scholastica or hosting Lawrence.
