Women’s Hockey Falls in Game One at UW-Eau Claire

Eau Claire -

Despite taking the early 1-0 lead in the first period, the Concordia women's hockey team fell victim in game one of their NCHA Tournament Quarterfinal series at UW-Eau Claire, dropping a 5-3 decision to the Blugolds on Friday night.

Alyssa Isaackson (off an assist from Steph Boehm) put the Falcons on the scoreboard, recording her eighth goal of the season at the 13:54 mark. However, the Blugolds responded with two goals in a span of 3:08 of the second period to take control, eventually building a 4-1 advantage.

To Concordia's credit, they battled back to within one thanks to goals by Steph Boehm and all-NCHA selection Sarah Luberda. Emily Larson then delivered the knockout punch in the closing seconds to put UW-Eau Claire up one game in the best of three weekend series.

The Blugolds outshot the Falcons 25-18, in a game which featured just four combined penalties.

With the victory, UW-Eau Claire improves to 11-6-4, while CUW falls to 10-7-4. These two teams will battle again in game two of the series on Saturday night at 7pm, with the Blugolds advancing in the NCHA Tournament with a win.

If the Falcons win, the decisive third game will be played immediately following game two. The NCHA Tournament format calls for a mini-game which will determine the series winner.
