UW-Eau Claire women defeat CUW 5-3
Eau Claire
Concordia skated evenly with UW-Eau Claire throughout the contest,
outshooting the victors 31-30, but a pair of third period scores
gave the Blugolds a 5-3 win.
The hosts broke out to a 3-1 lead after the first period, scoring
twice on power play opportunities and jumping ahead 2-0 after just
three minutes of action. Jaime Athens lit the lamp for CUW in that
initial frame.
Concordia (9-6-2 in league play) battled back with Hilary
Christiansen and Samantha Meuwissen getting credit for the goals
that brought the score to 3-3 with thirteen minutes remaining.
Back came powerful Eau Claire (now 9-4-2 in NCHA action) with two
more scores to earn a crucial victory. "It was a very frustrating
loss," said Jim Ingman. "We can't start games like that."
