Falcon hockey women stun #8 UW Superior 2-1
Superior
Concordia (11-8-1) recorded the signature win of their hockey
season Friday evening, stunning #8 UW-Superior 2-1 on the
road.
"We probably played our best hockey of the season," understated
Coach Jim Ingman. "Our players made adjustments along the way and
really sacrificed themselves at the end with some great blocks when
they (the Yellow Jackets) pulled their goalie and were firing shots
at us trying to get a tie."
The hosts actually scored first on an Alison Shrift tally at 11:37
of the first period but Concordia got the equalizer on a power play
score by Jaime Athens at 16:37 of the second session.
Then April Forar lit the lamp for one of the most historic goals in
Falcon history at 7:08 of the third and CUW held on behind
determined defense.
"Sarah Lichtie, Hilary Christiansen, Samantha Meuwissen...," the
coach's list of stellar performers went on and on.
UW-Superior (11-4-4 overall) will host the Falcons again on
Saturday. The yellow jackets are 9-2-4 in league play and
Concordia is now 8-4-1.
