Falcons Outdueled by No. 7 Warhawks

WHITEWATER, Wis. – The Concordia women's basketball team suffered a 79-33 defeat at the hands of the No. 7 Wisconsin-Whitewater Warhawks, falling to an undefeated team that had scored 75 points or more in four of its last five games. The loss moved the Falcons to 3-3 in the 2023-24 campaign as they prepare to open NACC play on Saturday.

Just under two minutes into the contest, freshman Jayden Ross (Baraboo, Wis.) opened the scoring for the Falcons to collect the first points of the game. After a quick response from the Warhawks, senior Erin Viergutz (Clintonville, Wis.) reclaimed the lead for Concordia, and upon another tying shot from the Wisconsin-Whitewater, sophomore Ava Booth (Plymouth, Wis.) put the Falcons back in front once again.

The Warhawks took their first lead of the game in the final minutes of the first quarter, and would not surrender it for the remainder of the contest. After being held to a season-low seven first-quarter points by the Concordia defense, Wisconsin-Whitewater pieced together a 21-11 second-quarter margin. The 28 first-half points for the Warhawks marked the lowest total of the young season for a team that entered the night averaging over 37 points through the first two quarters. However, the Warhawks would eventually pull away from the Concordia defense with a strong second half en route to the 79-33 victory.

Booth and junior Audrey DeBauch (Gillett, Wis.) led the Falcons in scoring on the evening, totaling 10 points each. DeBauch was also perfect from the free throw line for Concordia, sinking her only two attempts of the night.

The Falcons will begin conference play on Saturday, December 2 against the 2-2 Rockford Regents.
