Falcons Winning Streak was Snapped on Wednesday

MEQUON, Wis. – The Concordia Wisconsin women's basketball team had its three-game winning streak snapped on Wednesday night. The Green Knights picked up the 66-53 victory to send the Falcons to 7-8 on the year and 4-3 in the Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference.

The Falcons jumped out to an early 4-0 lead on Wednesday night with a pair of layups from junior Aubrey DeBauch (Gillett, Wis.).

The Green Knights stormed back with five-straight points to take their first lead of the evening before senior Deidre Lassiter (Highlands Ranch, Colo.) scored on a layup to give the Falcons back the lead.

St. Norbert reclaimed the lead on the next possession and never gave it back. A jump shot from senior Madeline Taubenheim (Menomonee Falls, Wis.) cut the deficit to 14-13 in the final minute of the first quarter, but SNC went into the second quarter with a 16-13 lead.

Aubrey DeBauch hit a pair of jump shots at 7:42 and 7:24, but that would be the final points of the half for Concordia and the Falcons went into halftime trailing, 35-19.

The Falcons continued to fight in the third quarter and trimmed the deficit to 15 points on two occasions with shots from Aubrey DeBauch and freshman Andrea Butterbrodt (Green Bay, Wis.). Freshman Jayden Ross (Baraboo, Wis.) drove to the hoop and drew a foul to earn two points at the free throw line to send the teams to the fourth quarter at 52-32.

Concordia continued to chip away at the SNC lead throughout the fourth quarter. The Falcons outscored the Green Knights in the final frame, 21-14. A layup from Aubrey DeBauch with 47 seconds left cut the SNC lead to 61-52.

Aubrey DeBauch led all players with 22 points on Wednesday night.

Senior Erin Viergutz (Clintonville, Wis.) finished a game-high eight rebounds to go with her 11 points.

The Falcons look to bounce back on Saturday at first-place Edgewood. The Eagles are 8-8 on the year and the only undefeated NACC team at 7-0.
