Warriors Walk Away with the Win

MEQUON, Wis. – The Concordia Wisconsin women's basketball team battled with Wisconsin Lutheran on Wednesday night in the Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference (NACC) home opener for the Falcons. The Blue and White are now 4-4 on the season and 1-1 in the NACC after the 47-60 result.

The Falcons jumped out to an early 10-3 lead halfway through the first quarter. The Falcons were led by sophomore Ava Booth (Plymouth, Wis.) and Jayden Ross (Baraboo, Wis.) with four points each in the run.

The Warriors stormed back and tied the game at 13 with 50 seconds left in the first quarter. Senior Erin Viergutz (Clintonville, Wis.) sank a layup to put the Falcons up 15-13, after 10 minutes.

A layup from Ava Booth pushed the lead up to 19-13 for the Falcons with 8:50 left in the half.

A 15-2 run for the Warriors gave the Green and White the momentum in the second quarter.

Ava Booth ended the Warriors' 11-0 run with a jump shot.

The Green and White took a 31-23 lead into halftime.

WLC made the first two baskets of the third quarter to push the lead up to 35-23 with 7:48 left in the quarter.

The Falcons clawed away at the WLC lead and a 10-0 run put the Falcons back in the game. The run was fed by four points for junior Aubrey DeBauch (Gillett, Wis.) and senior Deidre Lassiter (Highlands Ranch, Colo.).

Erin Viergutz scored off a turnover in the paint and trimmed the WLC lead to 41-37 heading into the fourth quarter.

The Warriors took advantage of the whistles that were granted and went to the free-throw line for 16 shots in the second half. The Warriors made 12 of those to keep the game out of reach. The Falcons finished four-for-six from the charity stripe.

Ava Booth finished with a game-high 17 points on Wednesday. She also led the flock with six rebounds.

Aubrey DeBauch finished the evening with 10 points and five rebounds.

The Falcons took care of the ball on Wednesday and finished with a season-low 14 turnovers.

The 60 points are the second-lowest mark of the year for the Warriors, the lowest being 48 against No. 1 Transylvania.

The Falcons will rest up and focus on final exams before returning to play on Friday, Dec. 15 at Wheaton in Illinois.
