Falcons Fall at Marian
FOND DU LAC, Wis. - Wednesday evening saw the Falcons fall to 4-7 in the 2023-24 season, as the Sabres took the contest by a 56-45 score.
An early three-pointer from sophomore Ava Booth (Plymouth, Wis.) put Concordia ahead 7-2 in the game's opening minutes, and the Falcons would ultimately outscore Marian 12-8 in the first quarter of play.
The Sabres countered Concordia's offensive attack in the second quarter, taking 15 of the first 17 points the period had to offer.
However, the Falcons strung together seven consecutive points as the half neared its close, a stretch capped off by a three-pointer off the hands of freshman Gracie McNabb (Grafton, Wis.). The late run gave Concordia the game's momentum heading into the break despite a slim 23-21 advantage in favor of Marian.
A pair of free throws from Viergutz pulled the Falcons within one in the half's opening minutes, but a solid offensive presence for Marian seized a 13-2 run as the period ran its course.
But it was the Sabres who took hold of the game in the third quarter of play, pushing their lead to twelve by its conclusion.
The final ten minutes of play saw Concordia take jabs at the Sabres' advantage, but the attack fell short. The Falcons trimmed the lead to nine before Marian bumped it back to 14 points. However, a trio of free throws from freshman Jayden Ross (Baraboo, Wis.) and McNabb brought the game to its final 56-45 margin.
In the loss, Erin Viergutz (Clintonville, Wis.) contributed 11 points and 10 rebounds in the effort.
The Blue and White will return on the hardwood on January 6 against the 1-11 Dominican Stars.
