Falcons Crush the Cardinals For Second-Straight Victory

MEQUON, Wis. – The Concordia Wisconsin women's basketball team stifled the North Central Cardinals by a 59-52 score on Wednesday night, winning its second consecutive game to improve to 2-1 on the season. Junior Aubrey DeBauch (Gillett, Wis.) led the Falcons with 16 points on the evening,

The Cardinals jumped out 14-6 as the first quarter came to a close, but Concordia would outscore North Central by 12 over the remainder of the half, taking a four-point lead into halftime.

The third quarter proved to be a defensive battle, as the two squads combined for less than 20 points. However, the Falcons' 11-8 margin over its unfolding padded the lead by three points, an addition that would prove to be crucial in staving off a late rally in the game's closing minutes by the Cardinals.

Concordia expanded the lead as far as 13 in the fourth before a surge by the Cardinals' offense brought the game closer. The lead would be cut to three in the final minutes of the contest, but DeBauch, junior Lindsey Lonigro (Deerfield, Wis.), and sophomore Ava Booth (Plymouth, Wis.) were able to combine for five crucial free throws in the final 30 seconds of play to put the game away for Concordia.

The Falcons collected 49 total rebounds on the evening, the team's highest total in its last 17 games dating back to last season, and senior Diedre Lassiter (Highlands Ranch, Colo.) led the effort with ten.

Concordia will be back on the hardwood on the other side of Thanksgiving, set to compete in the Rocky Mountain Tourney against the 1-2 Willamette Bearcats.
