Women's Basketball Notches Sixth Conference Win

MEQUON, Wis. – The Concordia Wisconsin women's basketball improved to 9-8 in the 2023-24 season, collecting its fifth win in six games to eclipse the .500 mark. The Falcons were led by junior Audrey DeBauch (Gillett, Wis.), who collected 22 points to tie a career-high set on January 17.

DeBauch notched half of her total in the game's opening quarter, contributing 11 of Concordia's 21 points.

The second frame of play saw the Inferno chip away at the Falcons' lead, trimming the 13-point advantage down to three in the early going of the quarter. A series of shots from DeBauch, senior Erin Viergutz (Clintonville, Wis.), and freshman Andrea Butterbrodt (Green Bay, Wis.) gave the Falcons more breathing room on the scoreboard, growing the lead to ten by the game's halfway point.

Both squads strung together strong scoring runs in the third quarter, as Alverno pieced together an opening 6-0 run to draw closer to even. The Falcons countered the scoring stretch with a run of their own, collecting 13 consecutive points to take a 44-27 lead. Butterbrodt led Concordia in shooting percentage during the run, tallying four of her 11 total points. Morgan Whitten put an end to the run with under one second remaining on the clock, assembling a three-point play for the Inferno.

Ava Booth led Concordia in the fourth quarter scoring as well as bench scoring, tallying seven points, including a three-point field goal late in the frame. After a late Alverno three from Victoria Parra, the final score was cemented at 63-42 in favor of Concordia.

Butterbrodt picked up three rebounds in the fourth quarter to set a career-high of 11.

The Falcons will look to stick to their winning ways at the Concordia Invitational Tournament, beginning on Friday, January 26.
