Women's Basketball Bounces Benedictine

LISLE, Ill. – The Concordia Wisconsin women flipped the script on Benedictine on Saturday afternoon with a last-second basket to bounce Benedictine, 63-61. The Falcons improve to 11-10 on the year and 10-4 in the Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference.

The Eagles jumped out of the gate with an early 7-0 run in the first three minutes. The Red and White led the entirety of the first quarter and held a 16-9 lead after 10 minutes.

With three minutes left in the second quarter, Benedictine pushed the lead up to 25-17. A 7-0 run cut the deficit to 25-24, but Benedictine walked into halftime, up, 28-25.

A pair of free throws from senior Emily Hafemann (Hales Corner, Wis.) gave CUW its first lead of the game at 29-28 at the 8:13 mark of the third quarter.

Benedictine and CUW battled tooth and nail and the Red and White led 46-45 heading into the fourth quarter.

CUW took the lead back in the fourth quarter and a layup from senior Regan Obry (Neenah, Wis.) put the Falcons up, 59-54, with 1:31 remaining.

Benedictine did not go away and tied the game at 61 with 24 seconds remaining.

A layup from senior Emily Hafemann gave CUW the lead with 2.2 seconds left.

The CUW defense then did not allow the Eagles to get a shot off.

Emily Hafemann cooked the Eagles with 31 points, six rebounds and three assists.

The Falcons look to keep rolling on Wednesday at Dominican as they continue their tour of the Land of Lincoln.
