Women's Basketball Wears Down the Cougars

RIVER FOREST, Ill. – The Concordia Wisconsin women's basketball team bounced back in style on Saturday afternoon when the Falcons handed Concordia Chicago its first loss of the season. The Blue and White improved to 6-6 on the year and to 5-2 in the Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference (NACC) with a 76-55 victory.

The Cougars took a 9-4 lead with 5:05 remaining in the first quarter, but it was all Falcons after that. CUW closed the quarter on a 13-0 run to take a 17-9 lead into the second quarter. Senior Reagan Obry (Neenah, Wis.) led all players with nine points after draining all three three-point baskets in the first frame.

A 9-0 run gave the Cougars the lead, but that would be the last time that the cats would be on top. A three-point basket from Reagan Obry gave CUW the lead and the Falcons never looked back. A pair of free throws from senior Emily Hafemann (Hales Corners, Wis.) gave the Falcons a 28-23 lead at halftime.

The Falcons broke the game open with a 26-15 scoring margin in the third quarter. The birds used a 13-5 run to close the quarter, giving CUW a 54-38 lead heading into the fourth quarter. CUW was 10-18 from the floor in the third quarter, led by Emily Hafemann with nine points.

CUW did not allow the Cougars to get closer than 12 points in the fourth quarter. The Blue and White ballooned the lead up to 23 points on two occasions with baskets from Reagan Obry and junior Erin Viergutz (Clintonville, Wis.).

Reagan Obry stuffed the score sheet with a career-high 21 points, six rebounds, two assists and two steals.

The birds did a splendid job of moving the ball around with 19 assists on 29 field goals. Sophomore Lindsey Lonigro (Deerfield, Wis. led the flock with six, tying her career high. The 19 assists tie a season-high with the Geneva game.

Emily Hafemann posted a strong line of 14 points, six rebounds, five assists, two steals and a block.

The 55 points are the second-fewest points scored for the Cougars, the lowest coming in a 52-75 loss at Wisconsin-La Crosse.
