Women’s Basketball Smacks the Sabres

MEQUON, Wis. – The Falcons returned back to the win column on Wednesday after a 78-66 victory over Marian. The victory keeps CUW in the top six of the Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference at 9-4 in fifth place and 10-10 on the season.

The Falcons came out hot on Wednesday night and started the scoring with a three-point basket from junior Lily Guerra (Yorkville, Ill.).

The Blue and White used an 8-0 run to close the quarter and led 21-10 after 10 minutes.

Junior Erin Viergutz (Clintonville, Wis.) claimed eight points in the quarter.

The Sabres shrunk the lead to 10 points at 26-16 with 5:54 left in the second quarter, but a three-point basket from Lily Guerra snapped the streak.

The Falcons went into halftime holding a 35-23 lead.

The birds maintained a steady lead throughout the third quarter. A layup from Reagan Obry (Neenah, Wis.) gave the Falcons a 60-44 lead heading into the fourth quarter.

The highwater mark of the evening came at 64-44 with a basket from freshman Ava Booth (Plymouth, Wis.).

Erin Viergutz led the flock with 16 points and also added seven rebounds, three assists and two blocks to stuff her stat line.

Ava Booth led the fight on the boards for the Blue and White with eight rebounds.

Senior Emily Hafemann (Hales Corners, Wis.) feasted on Marian with 15 points, a game-high seven assists and six rebounds.

Concordia posted a season-low 10 turnovers in the victory.

The Falcons return back to action on Saturday at Benedictine.
