Falcons Smash the Scarlet Hawks
CHICAGO, Ill. – The CUW women's basketball team extended its winning streak to four games on Saturday with a 71-43 victory to improve to 5-3 on the year and to 4-1 in the Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference.
It was all Blue and White on Saturday and that started with a 10-0 run. Senior Reagan Obry (Neenah, Wis.) had five points in the opening run. A three-point basket from junior Lily Guerra (Yorkville, Ill.) pushed the lead up to 17 points and the Falcons cruised to a 23-7 lead after the first quarter.
CUW used a 7-2 run to close the second quarter to take a 38-15 lead into halftime. CUW held IIT to only three field goals in the quarter.
The Blue and White blew the Scarlet Hawks out of the water with a 12-0 run to take a 50-17 lead. The run ended with a layup from junior Madeline Taubenheim (Menomonee Falls, Wis.).
The Falcons were able to play 15 different players in the fourth quarter. Freshman Darya Gunderman (Minneapolis, Minn.) scored her first points as a Falcon in the fourth quarter.
Senior Emily Hafemann (Hales Corners, Wis.) finished with a game-high 17 points. Senior Lindsey Smitsdorff (Coon Rapids, Minn.) led the flock with seven rebounds while freshman Ava Booth (Plymouth, Wis.) dished out a team-high four assists.
The Falcons held a 45-30 advantage in rebounds and feasted in the paint with a 42-24 advantage in scoring.
The birds will rest up and now focus on final exams before heading to Puerto Rico to take on Susquehanna and Gettysburg on Dec. 19 and 20.
