PLYMOUTH, Wis. – Everything aligned perfectly for the CUW men's soccer team on Wednesday evening. The Falcons picked up a 4-1 victory and an Aurora loss and MSOE tie put the Falcons into a three-way tie for first place.
"I am so proud of the boys this season," said John Saleska. "All the credit goes to the players. They worked hard all year long, fought through adversity, and accomplished the goals the team set all the way back in the preseason."
The Falcons threw the first punch on Wednesday with a goal in the sixth minute with a goal from senior Ivan Cuellar (Milwaukee, Wis.) from 12 yards out off assists from senior Nick Hummel (Green Bay, Wis.) and senior Will King (Maidenhead, G.B.).
The Muskies leveled the match in the 21st minute.
The Falcons retook the lead 19 seconds later off the boot of freshman Carson Kelly (Fond Du Lac, Wis.) and an assist from Will King.
Nick Hummel added to the lead nine minutes later off a pass from Ivan Cuellar.
The scoring ended in the 63rd minute with a header from Nick Hummel from a cross from senior Gilberto Gomez (Zion, Ill.).
Freshman Jeremy Munoz (Milwaukee, Wis.) had two saves in the victory. Senior Mattson Wick (New Berlin, Wis.) saved the lone shot he faced in the final 20 minutes.
The Falcons were projected to finish in fifth place in the NACC Preseason Poll.
CUW earned the top seed in the NACC Tournament and will play at 2:00 on Wednesday.
This is the fourth NACC regular season title for the Falcons, joining the 2015, 2017 and 2020 teams. CUW also has 10 LMC regular season titles.
