Men’s Soccer Secures the Oktoberfest Cup

GLENDALE, Wis. – The Falcons walked away as the first-ever Oktoberfest Cup champions on Saturday night. The Falcons clipped Carroll, 5-3, to remain unbeaten on the young season and move to 3-0-1.

The Pioneers were the first team on the scoreboard in the 10th minute.

Senior Ivan Cuellar (Milwaukee, Wis.) leveled the match on a blast to the corner on a free kick just outside of the 18-yard box in the 14th minute.

In the 40th minute, freshman Carson Kelly (Fond Du Lac, Wis.) sent a laser into the net with a shot outside of the 18-yard box off an assist to freshman Brock Gerritson (Fond Du Lac, Wis.).

Ivan Cuellar struck again in the final minute of the first half off a free kick to give the Falcons a 3-1 lead going into halftime.

Cuellar earned the hattrick performance when he charged down the field and put the ball away in the 84th minute.

After a Carroll goal, senior Nick Hummel (Green Bay, Wis.) headed in the ball right in front of the net off a touch from sophomore Sam Butterfield (St. Louis, Mo.).

Carroll held an 18-12 advantage in shots on Saturday night.

Senior Mattson Wick (New Berlin, Wis.) earned his first victory of the season with four saves.

Ivan Cuellar peppered the Carroll net with seven shots on the night, with five on goal.

CUW opens NACC play on Wednesday night at Aurora.
