RIVER FOREST, Ill. – The Concordia Wisconsin men's soccer team dampened the mood of senior day at Dominican with a 1-1 tie. The Falcons pick up a key point in the Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference standings as they move to 4-9-3 on the year and 4-6-1 in the NACC.
Junior Jeremy Munoz (Milwaukee, Wis.) came up with the first save of the match in the eighth minute when the Stars streaked up the middle of the box. Munoz posted another save six minutes later on a low shot.
The Stars struck first in the 17th minute to claim the early lead.
The box score says that the Falcons leveled the match zero seconds later, but that is why you can't believe everything you read online.
Senior Sam Butterfield (St. Louis, Mo.) headed in a ball off a free kick from junior Carson Kelly (Fond du Lac, Wis.) to respond from the Dominican goal.
Freshman Logan Walker (Hartland, Wis.) had a shot on goal in the 28th minute but it was saved by the Dominican keeper.
The two teams went into halftime tied at zero.
Senior Alishan Sharipov (Krasnodar, Russia) had three shots for the Falcons in the second half with shots on net in the 63rd and 66th minute.
Jeremy Munoz collected two saves in the second half to preserve the tie. He finished the match with eight saves.
The Falcons stay in the hunt for the NACC Tournament and are in a three-way tie for seventh place with Illinois Tech and Benedictine at 13 points. Five of the eight spots have been claimed with Wisconsin Lutheran at 14 points and the three at 13 points fighting for the final three spots. With the tie, Dominican falls out of second place and moves into third place. On Wednesday, Benedictine travels to Aurora, Wisconsin Lutheran hosts MSOE and Illinois Tech travels to Rockford.
The Falcons close the regular season at home against Lakeland.
