Last Minute Heroics Lifts CUW Past Lawrence

MEQUON, Wis. – The CUW men's soccer team opened the season with a thrilling 2-1 victory over Lawrence to start the 2022 campaign. A last-minute goal lifted the Falcons to victory.

The Vikings threw the first punch with a goal that trickled in during the 33rd minute.

The Falcons continued their assault at The LU net and finally found the back of the net with 10 seconds left in the first half off a shot from freshman Carson Kelly (Fond Du Lac, Wis.) and an assist from junior Matthew Alcala (Gurnee, Ill.).

Both teams put some quality shots during the second half, but the Falcons earned a penalty kick in the final minute.

Senior Nick Hummel (Green Bay, Wis.) sank the penalty kick with 59 seconds remaining to secure the victory.

Freshman Jeremy Munoz (Milwaukee, Wis.) earned his first collegiate victory in the net after playing in the second half.

CUW held a 25-10 advantage in shots on Thursday. Senior Ivan Cuellar (Milwaukee, Wis.) led all players with seven shots.

The Falcons return to play on Sunday at Beloit.
