Falcon men’s soccer defeats MSOE 1-0
MILWAUKEE -- Junior Kyle Sytsma
(Antioch, Ill.) knocked home a Jacob Streicher (senior, West Allis,
Wis.) corner kick with about eight minutes remaining in the first
half and that lone score stood up against an MSOE onslaught as head
coach Tom Saleska's side recorded a chilly, but thrilling 1-0 win
Tuesday evening.
With the win, Concordia University Wisconsin finished second behind
undefeated Dominican University in the Northern Athletics
Conference regular season by virtue of their 9-1-1 record. The
frustrated Raiders dropped to 8-3-0. Both teams lost overtime
battles to the Stars, 11-0-0 during the regular season, on the
road.
The hosts had an edge statistically with a 12-6 shot advantage, but
senior Enrique Alvarado (Elgin, Ill.) came up HUGE for CUW with six saves. "They
probably outplayed us, but...we'll take the win and
second place," confided coach Tom Saleska.
The Falcons will receive a first round tournament bye (no weekend
match) thanks to their NAC runnerup status.
