Men’s soccer plays to 0-0 draw with Benedictine

Box Score: CUW 0, BenU 0 (2OT)

Lisle, Ill. -- Concordia University Wisconsin and host Benedictine University went head-to-head for 110 minutes Saturday night with neither squad able to deliver the knockout punch.

After a back-and-forth first half that saw each team register three shots on goal, CUW appeared to take control of possession and opportunities from the 50th minute on.

Head coach Tom Saleska's side fired a dozen scoring attempts goal-ward after the break, but BenU goalie Orlando Esparza came up with six saves.

Esparza's best save of the match actually came in the closing minute of the second overtime and allowed his teammates to celebrate earning a draw. "They played us very intelligently," offered Saleska. "They had a lot of guys in the middle and basically sat back and chased. We had a plenty of shots but only a few quality opportunities."

CUW fell from the ranks of the NAC spotless as the Falcon conference record now reads 5-0-1. The Eagles are just 2-2-2 in NAC play and 4-6-2 overall.

CUW travels to Marian University next Tuesday for another critical 7 p.m. conference matchup.
