Falcons whip Lakeland 4-0 in men’s soccer

Box Score: CUW 4, LC 0

Mequon, Wis. -- Concordia University Wisconsin (5-0-0 in conference play) scored twice in each half on the way to a surprisingly easy 4-0 win over visiting Lakeland Wednesday afternoon at Fitting Field.

CUW senior Victor Mendoza (Mt. Prospect, Ill.) was credited with the game's first tally when a collision in front of the Muskie net resulted in the ball shooting past Muskies keeper Alex Piekarski.

Just two minutes later freshman Patrick Birder (Green Bay, Wis.) blasted a shot past a helpless Piekarski after faking out a defender to make it 2-0.

Tom Saleska's rapidly improving squad added second half goals by James Kroll (York, Ill.) and Birder (his second). Both came off passes from the ever-present Mendoza.

On paper Lakeland appeared to present a strong challenge defensively, but CUW managed 27 shots during the match and the score could have been worse except for nine 9 Piekarski saves.

Lakeland, now 4-4-2 overall, forced CUW's Enrique Alvarado (Sr. Elgin, Ill.) to make just 4 stops. Concordia travels to Lisle, Illinois to battle Benedictine on Saturday night at 7pm.
