Men's Soccer explodes in first half to down Marian

Box Score: CUW 6, MU 0

FOND DU LAC, Wis
. -- Concordia University Wisconsin men's soccer got a 'do over' Wednesday night at Smith Fields after the portion of Tuesday night's match, which had been wiped out by continued lightning, and walked away with a 6-0 Northern Athletics Conference victory over Marian University.

This time around the Falcons were more than ready to provide their own form of lightning strikes and protected their undefeated status in the NAC. Senior Bryan Samuel (Brookfield, Wis.) made it 1-0 CUW in the 13th minute and teammate Jacob Pope (sophomore, Muskego, Wis.) doubled the Falcons margin in the 18th minute of play.

Freshman Michael McCrone (Janesville, Wis.) blasted home score number three in the 31st minute...and so it went. By halftime head coach Tom Saleska's side had an insurmountable 5-0 cushion as junior Kyle Sytsma (Antioch, Ill.) and junior Zach Lemler (West Bend, Wis.) got into the act. "The first half tonight was probably our best half of soccer in a couple of years," said Saleska.

Senior Victor Mendoza (Mt. Prospect, Ill.) managed to add one more jolt to the Sabres ego after halftime to make for the 6-0 finale.

CUW (10-4-1, 6-0-1 NAC) outshot MU (4-9-1, 4-4-0 NAC) 38-2 and Falcon goalies did not need to make a single save.

The Falcons return to the pitch on Saturday for a 3:30 p.m. matchup against Wisconsin Lutheran College at Fitting Field. The Falcons are the first half of a doubleheader with the women's program who also hosts WLC at 1 p.m. The men's soccer team is now one half game behind NAC-leader Dominican University who is 7-0-0 in conference play.
