No. 4 Adrian shuts out Men's Hockey in first game of NCHA Quarterfinals

ADRIAN, Mich. – For the third straight game the Concordia University Wisconsin Men's Hockey team was shut out, this time falling to No. 4 Adrian College, 3-0, in the opening game of an NCHA Quarterfinal series.

The loss means the Falcons will need to defeat Adrian tomorrow afternoon to force a mini game, which would take place immediately following the contest. If Adrian wins or ties, they will advance to the semifinals of the Harris Cup Playoffs, ending the CUW season.

Adrian scored once in each period on Friday, including a goal by Matthew Thompson 1:15 into play, which would go down as the game-winning goal. Jeremy Olinyk and Kevin Balas added goals in the second and third periods, resulting in the 3-0 final.

The third period saw the two teams combine for 14 penalties, 11 of those coming at the 17:48 mark. The Falcons finished the game spending 24 minutes in the box on 12 infractions, while Adrian was whistled 11 times for 22 penalty minutes. Neither team could convert on a power play goal, the Falcons going scoreless in four tries, while Adrian was 0-for-5 with the man advantage.

CUW was outshot 36-31 during the game, which included a 17-5 edge for Adrian in the third period. Scott Shackell made 31 saves for the Bulldogs, while sophomore Jake Hebda (Firestone, Colo.) made 33 saves for the Falcons.

CUW will look for the win and mini game win tomorrow afternoon in a contest scheduled to begin at 3 p.m. eastern time. Live stat and video links will be available courtesy of the Adrian College Sports Information department.
