Men's Hockey gains key NCHA win over Northland

ASHLAND, Wis. – Needing a win to keep its NCHA Tournament hopes in reach, the Concordia University Wisconsin Men's Hockey team downed Northland College by a 5-3 score Friday night.

The Falcons now sit two points back of Northland for the final playoff spot in the NCHA with three games to go. Finlandia is also currently tied with CUW, but if the Falcons can get a sweep over the Lumberjacks tomorrow they would have tiebreakers over both NC and Finlandia.

CUW fell behind in the first period 1-0 on a Northland power play goal early in the first, but answered with four straight goals before the first period buzzer sounded. The Falcons would add another in the second period, taking a 5-1 advantage into the third. The Lumberjacks would threaten in the third with two scores, but CUW held on for the much-needed victory.

Sophomore Brandt Weldon (The Pas, Manitoba) scored a career-best two goals to pace the Falcons. Adding goals were junior captain Buster Hebda (Firestone, Colo.), freshman Travis Marit (Assiniboia, Saskatchewan) and junior Trammell Lynes (Edmonton, Alberta).

The Falcons will look for the sweep tomorrow afternoon at 3 p.m.
