Men's Hockey announces team awards at 2014-15 postseason banquet

MEQUON, Wis. – The Concordia University Wisconsin Men's Hockey team celebrated its 2014-15 season at its postseason banquet last month. At the banquet, CUW handed out its 2014-15 awards, highlighting the best performances both on and off the ice from this past season.

Sophomore Tanner Bull (Brooklin, Ontario) was named the team's MVP after finishing the season with 17 points. Bull played in all 27 games and scored two power play goals, along with two game-winning scores.

The Falcons also announced team captains for the 2015-16 campaign. Junior Buster Hebda (Firestone, Colo.) will once again serve as the team's captain, being selected for the fourth straight season to lead his squad. Eli Riddle (Blissfield, Mich.) will again serve as an assistant captain, while Bull and Trammell Lynes (Edmonton, Alberta) will also be assistant captains.

Freshmen Braden Crone (Metiskow, Alberta) and Anthony Pickering (Sylvan Lake, Alberta) were named the Co-Rookies of the Year. Crone skated in all 27 games and was second on the team with 21 points, while leading the squad with 15 assists. Pickering played in 21 contests and scored 17 points, including a program-record 11-game point streak early in the season.

Hebda and Lynes won the team's NAILS Player of the Year, an award given to someone who sacrifices his body for the betterment of the team.

Two players were selected as Defensive Players of the Year in Lynes and sophomore Brandt Weldon (The Pas, Manitoba). The two played very strong defense as blueliners for the Falcons throughout the season.

The Most Improved Player went to two student-athletes, freshmen Brody Decker (Dousman, Wis.) and Dillon Schwartzenberger (Saskatoon, Saskatchewan). Decker recorded 16 points in 22 games, while Schwartzenberger played in 22 games for the Falcons this season.

For the third straight season sophomore Lawrence Childs (Silver Springs, Md.) won the Community Service Award. Childs did so by being dedicated to helping others and volunteering in the community, while also being active with on-campus organizations.

Hebda was the recipient of the Team Player Award for the second straight season which is given to the player who puts the team first with every decision he makes.

Lynes and Jake Hebda (Firestone, Colo.) were honored with the team's Academic Achievement Award, which is given to the player with a strong GPA, showcasing their commitment to their academic workload.

The Falcons also gave out the NCHA All-Academic Awards, which was more detailed in an earlier release.
