Field Hockey Takes on Defending SAA Runner Up

MEQUON, Wis. – The CUW field hockey team took on the defending SAA runner-up Centre Colonels on Saturday afternoon.

The Centre Colonels got the game started with five unanswered goals spanning the first 35 minutes of the matchup.

In the third quarter, junior Berit Poirier (Vista, Calif.) netted the first Falcon goal of the contest to cut into the Colonel deficit.

The Colonels responded with a goal in the 57th minute to take the five-goal lead back and finish off the matchup.

The Falcons finished with three shots to the Colonel 32 and senior Emily Binley (Suffolk, Va.) recorded a season-high, and her second most in a game, 21 saves.

The Falcons were forced to defend against 13 penalty corners in the matchup and took none of their own.

The Blue and White travel to Marian to rematch their season opener on Wednesday.
