MEQUON, Wis. – The CUW field hockey team opened their season at home against Marian Sabres on Thursday afternoon.
The Falcons got things rolling in the second quarter with a tip in front of the net-minder by junior Abby McGue (St. Louis, Mo.) after a shot by senior Lorri Pitock (Naperville, Ill.). The goal came just after McGue put the ball into play off of a penalty corner.
Junior Renee Lund (Vista, Calif.) netted the second Falcon goal just seven minutes later off an assist from senior Olivia Riemer (Ballwin, Mo.).
The second half was all Sabres with a pair of goals in the third quarter as well as a penalty stroke goal in the fourth quarter with 47 seconds remaining.
The Blue and White finished with 12 shots on goal and the Falcon net-minder, senior Emily Binley (Suffolk, Va.) collected 11 saves.
