Football donates to Camp Hometown Heroes
MEQUON, Wis. – Concordia University Wisconsin donated $650 to Camp Hometown Heroes on Tuesday morning to support children who lost a loved one from the U.S. Military. The Falcons donated a dollar amount per touchdown scored during each home game.
CUW rushed for 14 touchdowns and threw seven passing touchdowns in five home games, and finished with a 4-1 record at Tomasini Stadium. During the 2013 home opener, which was also Military Day, they invited members of Camp Hometown Heroes to serve as honorary captains and will again do so for the 2014 home opener on Sept. 14 against Augsburg College at 1 p.m.
Camp Hometown Heroes is a national free week-long overnight summer camp for children who've lost a parent, sibling or other loved one who served in the U.S. military and died in any manner: combat, accidents, illness or suicide. During their visit to camp, perhaps for the first time in their young lives, the children have the opportunity to openly discuss their feelings and experiences. Through the support of pediatric grief specialists, the children partake in art and music therapy programs and optional discussion groups.
