Falcons Finish Season in NACC Quarterfinals

MEQUON, Wis. – The CUW women's basketball team traveled to Benedictine for the second round of the NACC tournament.

The Eagles went on a quick 12-0 run to start the first quarter.

The run was snapped by a jump shot from junior Reagan Obry (Neenah, Wis.).

Another eight-point run from the Eagles pushed the Falcons deeper in the hole with a score of 2-22.

Freshman Lindsey Lonigro (Deerfield, Wis.) and junior Lindsey Smitsdorff (Coon Rapids, Minn.) netted baskets for the Falcons at the end of the first quarter to cut into the deficit and go into the first break down 6-22.

The Eagles started the second on a 9-1 run to take the 31-7 lead early.

Sophomore Madeline Taubenheim (Menomonee Falls, Wis.) netted a jump shot to cut two points further into the lead at 9-31.

The Falcons finished the half with seven more points with five of them coming from sophomore Erin Viergutz (Clintonville, Wis.) and two from Obry.

The Eagles led going into halftime with a score of 39-16.

A 16-point run from the Eagles early in the third quarter put them ahead 59-22 with one minute left to go in the third quarter.

Viergutz netted a free throw to give the Falcons a point ad head into the final frame down 23-61.

Obry opened the fourth quarter with a three-point basket as well as another jumper to give the Falcons a 5-0 run to start the fourth.

Another Falcon six-point run pulled the flock back within 30 at 34-63.

The Eagles went on an 11-6 run to finish off the Falcons at 74-40.

Viergutz led the Falcon offense with 10 points. She added eight rebounds as well.

The Falcons finish their season with a 12-8 regular-season record with a first-round, tournament win over the Sabres of Marian.
