Falcons Subdue the Sabres

FOND DU LAC, Wis. – The Falcons continued their winning streak on Tuesday night with a 71-55 victory at Marian. The Blue and White soar to 10-6 on the year and 9-3 in the tightly contested NACC standings. The three-straight victories tie a season-high for the Falcons.

"We played well tonight and stayed true to the scout," said Stacey Brunner-Jones. "We spread the ball around and it was an overall good road win for us."

The Falcons never trailed on Tuesday evening. Junior Lindsey Smitsdorff (Coon Rapids, Minn.) started the scoring with a layup. The Blue and White blasted the Sabres with a 12-1 run to push the lead to 14-3. The run was capped off with a three-point basket from junior Reagan Obry (Neenah, Wis.). The Falcons pushed the lead up to 24-7 to close the first quarter with a layup from sophomore Deidre Lassiter (Highlands Ranch, Colo.).

The offense continued to click for Concordia in the second quarter with 22 points. CUW pushed the lead up to 25 points on multiple occasions in the quarter and did not allow the Sabres to get closer than 19 points. Lindsey Smitsdorff led the flock with six points in the quarter to push CUW to a 46-27 lead at halftime.

The Falcons returned a balanced attack in the third quarter with five Falcons scoring. The CUW defense gave the Sabres fits with six Marian turnovers in the quarter. Lindsey Smitsdorff silenced the Sabres with two blocks in the quarter to take a 60-39 lead into the fourth quarter.

CUW used a 7-0 run at the beginning of the fourth quarter to add to the lead. The Falcons defense also led to six more Sabre turnovers to secure the victory.

The 71 points tie the most points that Marian has allowed in 2022.

Lindsey Smitsdorff shredded the Sabres with 22 points, seven rebounds, five blocks and two assists in the victory.

Deidre Lassiter fell one rebound short of a double-double performance with 13 points and nine rebounds.

Senior Camryn Szolyga (Waukesha, Wis.) secured nine points and nine rebounds in the victory.

Regan Obry led the flock with five assists, while also adding 10 points and five rebounds.

The Falcons won the rebounding battle for the seventh-straight game by a margin of 45-41.

CUW held Marian to a 30.8% field goal percentage on Tuesday.  

The Falcons march on to a key NACC matchup on Saturday for a battle of third-place teams on senior day against Benedictine.
