Falcons Dominate Dominican

MEQUON, Wis. – After a cool start, the Falcons blazed past Dominican with a 70-45 victory to soar to 11-7 and 10-4 in the NACC.

The Stars shined bright in the first quarter and drained four three-point baskets to take an 18-12 lead into the second quarter. Turnovers were a bugaboo for the Falcons in the first quarter. The Stars scored 11 points off seven CUW turnovers in the quarter.

The second quarter was all Falcons on Tuesday night. The Falcons used a 14-0 run to sink the Stars and never looked back. Dominican did not score a point until there was 1:36 left in the half. The Falcons flew into halftime with a 31-21 lead.

The CUW offense exploded for 18 points in the third quarter and pushed the lead to 23 points with a basket from sophomore Erin Viergutz (Clintonville, Wis.) before heading into the fourth quarter up 49-33.

Concordia continued to pile on in the fourth quarter with 21 more points. Junior Lindsey Smitsdorff (Coon Rapids, Minn.) led all players with eight points. Freshman Sophie Lynch (Rogers, Minn.) made her debut as a Falcon and scored her first collegiate points.

Lindsey Smitsdorff secured another double-double performance with 18 points and 10 rebounds.

Sophomore Madeline Taubenheim (Menomonee Falls, Wis.) tallied a career-high 10 points in the victory. Sophomore Deidre Lassiter (Highlands Ranch, Colo.) also had 10 points and seven rebounds.

CUW hosted a block party on Tuesday night with six blocks against the Stars. Junior Reagan Obry (Neenah, Wis.) had three in the win.

Concordia also dished out 22 assists in the win with freshman Lindsey Lonigro (Deerfield, Wis.), Reagan Obry and Madeline Taubenheim all with four.

The Falcons dominated the boards on Tuesday with a 55-30 margin.

The Falcons travel to Edgewood on Saturday in a battle of fourth-place teams. The winner will be in the driver seat for the fourth seed that would have a home-court advantage in the first two rounds of the NACC Tournament.
