Late Surge Sinks CUW at Edgewood

MADISON, Wis. – The Falcons fell short in a battle of fourth-place teams in the NACC on Saturday afternoon. The Falcons fall to 11-8 on the year and to 10-5 in the NACC with the 54-63 loss. The loss also send CUW in a tie for fifth place in the NACC and to the No. 6 seed if the season were to end today due to the head-to-head result against Aurora.

Senior Camryn Szolyga (Waukesha, Wis.) led the charge for the Falcons in the first quarter, scoring seven of the Falcons 12 points, including a three-point basket to start the game. Edgewood got some separation with a 16-7 lead, but the Falcons closed the quarter on a 5-0 run.

The Eagles raised the lead to 10 points early in the second quarter, but the Falcons continued to claw back and a pair of free throws from junior Lindsey Smitsdorff (Coon Rapids, Minn.) made it a one-possession game heading into halftime at 30-28.

Neither team was able to build a lead bigger than two points in the third quarter. A jump shot from Lindsey Smitsdorff tied the game at 42 heading into the final quarter.

Leading 51-50, the Eagles broke away from CUW with a 6-0 run and closed the game with a 12-4 margin to secure the victory.

Lindsey Smitsdorff snagged her eighth double-double performance of the season with 17 points and 12 rebounds. She also added two blocks and two assists.

Junior Reagan Obry (Neenah, Wis.) added 12 points and a game-high four steals.

CUW closes the regular season on Tuesday at Alverno.
