Falcons Trounce Regents For Eighth Conference Win

MEQUON, Wis. - The Concordia Wisconsin women's basketball team picked up a 50-39 victory over the Rockford Regents on Wednesday evening, bumping the team's record to 8-7 in conference play and 11-13 overall. The win marked the Falcons' eighth of the season by double digits as well as the program's 26th consecutive victory over Rockford.

Freshman Jayden Ross (Baraboo, Wis.) kicked off the game's scoring, putting Concordia in front with a layup in the first minute of play. She was one of three Falcons to register points in the opening quarter, which saw senior Erin Viergutz (Clintonville, Wis.) lead in scoring after also putting away a free throw.

Following a three-pointer early in the second frame that brought the Regents within one, junior Lindsey Lonigro (Deerfield, Wis.) countered the attack with a triple of her own to restore a four-point advantage for Concordia. Fellow junior Aubrey DeBauch (Gillet, Wis.) was responsible for six of the Falcons' 15 points in the quarter, shooting 2/2 from the field while also sinking two of her three attempts from the free throw line.

The 22-11 halftime reading on the scoreboard was the result of a strong defensive performance for Concordia, as it was the program's fewest points allowed in the first half since a 2022 victory over Dominican.

The Falcons opened the second half on a 13-1 run, which allowed the team to boast its biggest lead of the game at 23 points. While the Regents cut into the deficit as the third quarter reached its end, Concordia still held a comfortable 13-point advantage at its conclusion.

Ross contributed the opening points of the fourth quarter and would go on to lead all players with four rebounds in the frame. The Regents once again made a dent into the lead as the clock wound down, drawing within seven. However, Concordia put away its final five free throws to ensure the victory, which it would take by a 50-39 score.

The victory secured a spot in the NACC Tournament for the Falcons.

The Falcons will conclude the regular season in their next contest against the 8-16 Concordia Chicago Cougars on February 17. The two schools opened the season series at the Concordia Invitational Tournament, which saw the Falcons take a 61-44 victory.
