Falcons Torch the Inferno

MILWAUKEE, Wis. – The Falcons scorched the Inferno of Alverno in the lone meeting of the year due to a cancelation. The Blue and White torched Alverno with a 69-45 victory to improve to 12-8 and 11-5 in the NACC.

The Falcons ran rampant in the first quarter and dropped 28 points on the Inferno. CUW led wire-to-wire on Tuesday. An 11-0 run gave the Falcons an early lead and never looked back. Junior Lindsey Smitsdorff (Coon Rapids, Minn.) led CUW with six points in the run. The Blue and White led 28-11 after the first quarter with a balanced attack with eight points from junior Reagan Obry (Neenah, Wis.) seven points from sophomore Deidre Lassiter (Highlands Ranch, Colo.), six from Lindsey Smitsdorff and five points from freshman Lindsey Lonigro (Deerfield, Wis.).

The birds burned the Inferno again with 21 points in the second quarter to take a 49-22 lead into halftime. Senior Aubrey Buchholtz (Seymour, Wis.) was a perfect three-for-three from beyond the arc in the quarter. The Falcons went on a 15-0 run in the quarter and ballooned the lead up to 30 points with a1:47 left.

CUW added 10 points in the third and fourth quarters to extinguish the Inferno.

Lindsey Smitsdorff secured yet another double-double performance with 14 points and 11 rebounds.

Regan Obry, Aubrey Buchholtz and Lindsey Lonigro all reached double-digit points with 12, 11 and 10 points respectively.

Senior Camryn Szolyga (Waukesha, Wis.) and Regan Obry secured two blocks.

Freshman Abigale Hafemann (Hales Corners, Wis.) had a game-high four assists in the victory.

With the victory, the Falcons finished in a tie for fourth place with Edgewood and Aurora. Due to tiebreakers, the Falcons will be the sixth seed in the NACC Tournament and host Marian on Saturday.
