No. 22 WLC Rallies to Beat Women’s Basketball

MEQUON, Wis. – The CUW women's basketball team battled with No. 22-ranked Wisconsin Lutheran in the NACC home opener for 40 minutes. The Green and White remained unbeaten on the season with a 61-52 victory.

The Warriors jumped out to an early 5-0 run to start the game. Rallied with a 16-2 run that was capped with a free throw from junior Kathryn Kirkwood (Milwaukee, Wis.). A free throw from senior Emily Hafemann (Hales Corners, Wis.) gave the Falcons a 19-12 lead heading into the second quarter.

The Green and White cut the deficit to two points before the Falcons closed the first half on an 8-3 run. Junior Reagan Obry (Neenah, Wis.) drained a layup to give the Blue and White a 31-24 lead at halftime.

Wisconsin Lutheran did not fold and continued to chip away at the Concordia lead in the third quarter. WLC retook the lead late in the quarter and held a 50-45 lead heading into the final frame.

The visitors scored the first five points in the fourth quarter to balloon the lead up to 10 points. The Falcons fought until the very end, but could not overtake the Green and White.

The Falcons were led by Kathryn Kirkwood with 16 points on the evening. She also added four blocks and 10 rebounds for a double-double performance.

Junior Lindsey Smitsdorff (Coon Rapids, Minn.) finished two points of another double-double performance with eight points and 10 rebounds.

Reagan Obry added 13 points to the Concordia effort.

Freshman Lindsey Lonigro (Deerfield, Wis.) led CUW with a career-high six assists.

CUW moves to 2-3 on the year and to 1-1 in NACC play. WLC remains unbeaten at 5-0 and to 1-0 in NACC action.

The Falcons will flip the calendar to December and travel to Rockford on Saturday.
