Season comes to end for Men's Hockey in Harris Cup Quarterfinals

FOND DU LAC, Wis. – The Concordia University Wisconsin Men's Hockey team saw its season come to an end in the Harris Cup Quarterfinals Wednesday night in a 3-0 setback against No. 12 Marian. The Falcons finished the year with 11 wins, setting the program record in the process.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Sabres jumped out to an early lead as Gianni Mangone struck 26 seconds into play. Hunter Stewart and Derek Thorogood assisted on the game's opening goal.

- The Falcons trailed 2-0 after the first period as Marian built a 2-0 lead with a goal at the 7:41 mark. Curtis Lewington scored, with Stewart and Devin Stuermer adding assists.

- The final score of the game came with just 14 seconds left in the second period, resulting in a 3-0 deficit for the Falcons. It was Jake Howie who scored for Marian, this one coming on the power play. Warren Carter and Stuermer had the assists on the play.

- Freshman Jack Romanuik (Melfort, Saskatchewan) played well for the Falcons, finishing with 33 saves. He had double-digit stops in each period, recording 11 saves in the first, 12 in the second and 10 more in the third.

- It was a clean game between the Falcons and Sabres with the two teams combining for just three penalties. The Falcons were whistled for a pair of two-minute minor penalties, while Marian committed one infraction for two minutes in the box.

BEYOND THE BOX SCORE
- The game wrapped up the careers of four Falcons seniors who have helped lead CUW to its four winningest seasons in program history. The 2015-16 senior class for the Falcons was four-year captain Buster Hebda (Firestone, Colo.), Eli Riddle (Blissfield, Mich.), Trammell Lynes (Edmonton, Alberta) and Lennie Childs (Silver Springs, Md.).

- Riddle skated in his 104th career game on Wednesday, which is the most of any player in Falcons history. The senior also leaves as the programs leader in assists with 43 over the last four seasons.

- The win was the 13th straight for Marian, who now advance to the Harris Cup Semifinals to take on the No. 2 seed in the Harris Cup Playoffs St. Norbert in a two-game set this weekend. SNC is ranked No. 1 nationally in the latest USCHO.com poll.
