Riddle's late goal gives Men's Hockey third straight Thanksgiving Cup

MEQUON, Wis. – Senior Eli Riddle scored a power play goal with 28 seconds remaining in regulation, which allowed the Concordia University Wisconsin Men's Hockey team to gain a series sweep over Bethel University Saturday at the Ozaukee Ice Center. The win also gave the Falcons the Thanksgiving Cup, their third straight in the annual series.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- Riddle (Blissfield, Mich.) took a shot from the point on the Falcons last of five power play opportunities to lift his team to the 2-1 win. The Falcons did a great job of taking away the Bethel goaltenders vision and Riddle had his second goal of the year for the victory. Freshman Taylor Gauld (Whitby, Ontario) assisted on the game-winning goal.
- Bethel secured a 1-0 lead early in the second period on a power play score of its own. George Splichal scored eight seconds into a Royals power play on a goal assisted by Michael Bond and Tony Larson for what would be the Royals lone goal of the afternoon.
- The Falcons would tie the score midway through the second stanza when junior Adam Ritchie (Lively, Ontario) scored his first goal of the season. Freshmen Nick Erb (London, Ontario) and Adam Fauchoux (Prince Albert, Saskatchewan) assisted on the Ritchie score.
- It was another strong start for freshman Jack Romanuik (Melfort, Saskatchewan) for the Falcons. Romanuik stopped 23 shots en route to his third win of the season in four starts. Ten of those saves came in the opening period.
BEYOND THE BOX SCORE
- The Falcons retained the Thanksgiving Cup, marking the third straight year CUW has won the trophy in the series against Bethel. The Falcons are now 5-0-1 all-time against Bethel in the series that began in 2013-14.
- Riddle's goal was the Falcons lone power play score on five chances. Bethel finished 1-for-4 on the power play as the two teams combined for 12 penalties and 32 minutes in the box.
- The Falcons continue their strongest start in program history as they are now 6-3-1 through 10 games.

- CUW will return to conference play with a home-and-home series against Aurora next weekend. The first game is a 7:30 p.m. matchup at Aurora on Friday, while the Falcons will host the Spartans next Saturday at 7 p.m. at the Ozaukee Ice Center.
