Seel, Crone spark third-period comeback for Falcons in tie with Finlandia

MEQUON, Wis. – Stefen Seel recorded his second straight three-point game in helping lead an incredible third-period comeback for the Concordia University Wisconsin Men's Hockey team in a 3-3 tie Friday night with Finlandia. The Falcons struck two times in the final two minutes of regulation, the second coming with their goalie pulled and 20 seconds on the clock, to salvage a tie and remain unbeaten at home.

THE BASICS

- Final Score: Concordia Wisconsin 3, Finlandia 3
- Location: Ozaukee Ice Center – Mequon, Wis.
- Records: Concordia Wisconsin 2-2-1, 2-2-1 NCHA; Finlandia 0-2-3, 0-1-2 NCHA

HOW IT HAPPENED

- The final two minutes were certainly exciting for the 771 fans in attendance at the Ozaukee Ice Center. Sophomore Braden Crone (Metiskow, Alberta) made the score 3-2 with a rebound goal off a shot from sensor Eli Riddle (Blissfield, Mich.) with Seel also assisting on the play. That score came with 1:48 left in the game and Seel (Invermere, British Columbia) would tie it with 20 seocnds remaining, Crone picking up the assist on the equalizer.

- Seel started the scoring for the Falcons with a goal 5:17 into the third, assisted by Crone and senior Trammell Lynes (Edmonton, Alberta).

- The Falcons looked off in the first two periods, falling behind 3-0. Finlandia's first goal, the only score of the opening stanza, was scored just one second after CUW killed off a Lions power play. Alex Holm netted the score for Finlandia to make it 1-0.

- The Lions did something neither Lake Forest or MSOE could do in the first two weekends of the year in the second period against CUW. They scored on the power play, doing so on two occasions. Alex Rezansoff and Thomas Malkmus scored the two power play goals.

- Freshman Jack Romanuik (Melfort, Saskatchewan) made 25 saves in his second start of the season, moving his record to 1-0-1.

- The Falcons outshot the Lions 48-28 on Friday, including a 25-4 edge in the third period and overtime sessions.

BEYOND THE BOX SCORE

- The Falcons are now 25-of-27 on the penalty kill this season as their streak 23 straight to start the season was snapped in the second period.

- The three-point effort was not only the second straight for Seel, but also the second of Crone's career. He had three assists in an 8-2 win over Aurora last season.

- CUW is now 2-0-1 in home games to start the season, the best three-game home start in program history. The Falcons posted a 1-0-2 record over their first three home contests in 2013-14.

UP NEXT

- These two teams will meet again tomorrow at 4 p.m. at the Ozaukee Ice Center. The Falcons Women's Hockey team will also play Finlandia at 1 p.m.
