Men's Hockey drops non-conference contest at UW-Stout

MENOMONIE, Wis. – Fresh off a big non-conference win over No. 8 UW-Eau Claire Friday night, the Concordia University Wisconsin Men's Hockey team couldn't keep the momentum going Saturday, falling in a non-conference matchup at UW-Stout. The Blue Devils used a three-goal second period and a hat trick from Tyler Cayemberg to down the Falcons, 5-2.

HOW IT HAPPENED

- The score was 1-1 after one period of play as Cayemberg netted the first of his goals midway through the first period. The UW-Stout goal was scored on the power play but was answered by the Falcons late in the first as junior Josh Herrington (Aurora, Ontario) scored his first goal of the season. Freshman Stefen Seel (Invermere, British Columbia) assisted on the goal moving his points streak to five straight games.

- The Blue Devils came out fast in the second period, scoring 10 seconds in to make the score 2-1. Cayemberg then added a power play goal midway through the second stanza, while UW-Stout would score again three minutes later, making the score 4-1 in favor of the home team.

- The Falcons would cut the Blue Devils lead to 4-2 with under six minutes left in the second when freshman Adam Fauchoux (Prince Albert, Saskatchewan) lit the lamp for his second goal of the year. Sophomore Anthony Pickering (Sylvan Lake, Alberta) and freshman Nick Erb (London, Ontario) picked up assisted on the Fauchoux goal

- Cayemberg would complete the hat trick on an empty net score with three seconds remaining in the contest, making the final 5-2.

- Freshman Andy Munroe (Newmarket, Ontario) made 20 saves for the Falcons as his record dropped to 3-2-0 for the season.

- UW-Stout got 20 saves from Chase Hollander and four more from reserve Spencer Viele. The Falcons finished the night with a slight 26-25 edge in shots.

BEYOND THE BOX SCORE

- The Falcons split a weekend for the third time this season. CUW had weekend series splits with Lake Forest and MSOE earlier this year, and split this weekend after defeating UW-Eau Claire last night.

- CUW dropped to 0-6-0 all-time against the Blue Devils. The Falcons will get another crack at UW-Stout in a home game on January 22.

UP NEXT

- The Falcons will look to retain the Thanksgiving Cup next weekend in a home series against Bethel. CUW has won the Thanksgiving Cup, a tradition started with the Royals in the 2013-14 season, each of the past two seasons. Puck drop for the opening game is set for 7 p.m. Friday night at the Ozaukee Ice Center.
